How to Use the Search Feature

There are a variety of search features available on CompuMaster Online Training to help you locate courses and reference books. The most accessible search is the Search Utility, found in the left navigation bar on almost every CompuMaster Online Training page (sample below).

To search for a course using the Search Utility shown below, follow the instructions for searching as listed in the Search for a course section, but first make sure the default setting in the drop-down Search Choice reads Courses.

Likewise, If you wish to search for a reference book using the Search Utility, follow the same instructions for searching as listed in the Search for reference books section, but first make sure the default setting in the drop-down Search Choice reads Reference Books.

If you are searching for courses in the Course Catalog, or books in the Resource Center, click the respective link for instructions.


   Search for a course (Course Catalog)
   To search for a course:
  1. Enter a word, course title or technology in the Search Courses text box, or in the Search text box if using the Search Utility. Note: This search feature does not accept Boolean search operators (like AND, OR, NOT) or special search characters used to include or exclude text (like +   -   ?   " ").
  2. Click Titles Only to only see titles in the search results. Click Titles and Table of Contents (or Titles and Content in the Search Utility) to see titles, lessons, topics, tutorials, recommendations and objectives in the search results.
  3. Click Search to begin the search.
  4. A list of all courses, online instructor-led and self-study, that match the search criteria is displayed. See a sample layout of course listings in the Course Catalog. See About Restricted Courses if a course is restricted. See Take an Assessment if assessment has been enabled for your CompuMaster Online Training student account. (If you chose the Titles And Table Of Contents option from the Course Catalog and now want to see your results by Titles Only, click Hide Search Details on the search results page.)

   Search for Reference Books (Resource Center)
   You can search for books using a word or phrase with the search function from either Reference Books in the Resource Center, or by using the Search Utility. Locate books you already know of by searching on the title, the author's name, publisher's name or the book serial number (ISBN). You can also go to Search Tips for tips on searching and the results different searches will produce.

To search for reference books:

  1. Click the Search Reference Books box in the Resource Center, or the Search text box in the Search Utility. Remember, if you are using the Search Utility, click the down arrow in the Search Choice drop-down and select Reference Books.
  2. Select the radio button next to Title to search the title, author's name, publisher's name, or ISBN; or the radio button next to Titles and Content to include the entire book contents in the search. Note: If you are doing a search of previous search results using the Resource Center, the radio buttons will read New Search and Append to Previous Search.
  3. Type the word, phrase or number you want to search for.
  4. Click Search to display the search results.
