Harvard Business School Publishing Series: Navigation

When you open a course, a new browser window is opened. However, instead of seeing your browser's navigational tools, you'll see a course banner at the top of the page that contains navigational tools for the course. This banner allows you to navigate through the course pages and keep track of where you are.

The Course Banner

The following explains each section of the banner:

Print Functionality

Each content page has a "print" graphic that will allow you to "print" the corresponding page's content in a "printer friendly" format. At the beginning of each lesson, you will notice a "print lesson" graphic. The "print lesson" graphic allows you the option of printing the entire lesson.
The following print graphic is used in the course to print lessons or topics:

Course Components

The course components are designed to enhance your learning experience online. The content of each course is broken down into lessons and topics; at the end of each lesson is a Wrap Up Quiz. For example:

When you reach the end of the lesson, you will see a "Congratulations!" page. At that point you can do a simple check of what you have learned, review any topics within that lesson, or exit the course. When you complete a course, the course is then moved to My Past Courses on the My Courses page.

QuicKnowledgeSM modules allow you the opportunity to decide how much information you want, how fast you want to view it, and how much detail you want to view in any given module. The following options and suggestions will help you navigate around the module at your own pace:
  • Use the Linear Approach - By clicking on the button, you move straight through the Implementation Strategies, Action Tips, and Key Points in a sequential format, somewhat like turning the pages of a book. You can also go backward to review information you have already covered.
  • Access Links for More Detail - By clicking on certain words and phrases, you can access a second level of detail on selected concepts when you need, or want, supplemental information. These links are away from the main path. It is similar to looking through the appendix of a book.
  • Return to the Main Path - By clicking on the button at the bottom of the window containing the second level of information, you return to the main path that you just left.
  • Customize your Learning - When you click on the outline in the left-hand navigation bar, you can access the Implementation Strategies, and Action Tips any time. This approach is useful for previewing the module, reviewing information, and developing your own learning sequence. It is like using the table of contents in a book to select specific pages or chapters out of sequence.
